New Yorker Editor David Remnick is disappointed that Hillary Clinton’s press conference explaining her exclusive use of a private e-mail account and secret server was not more convincing.
“It’s one thing for a politician to be stupid, which Hillary Clinton is not, it’s quite another for a politician to believe that we’re stupid; and that is deflating.”
On ABC’s This Week, Redneck continued,
“A lot of people I know, and myself included, are not likely to vote for a conservative Republican come 20 months from now, and a lot of our readers are in that camp and they want Hillary Clinton to be the best Hillary Clinton that she can be in the absence of any competition in the Democratic party.”

Secretary Kerry Says U.S. May Negotiate With Assad
This administration is dirty. Just like the previous:
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry told a television interviewer on Sunday that Washington will “have to negotiate in the end” with Syrian President Bashar al Assad.
Kerry told CBS News on the fifth anniversary of the Syrian government’s vicious crackdown on popular protests, which triggered the civil war, that the United States is engaged in behind-the-scenes efforts with allies to persuade Assad to negotiate an end to the civil war.
Asked if he is ready to negotiate directly with the Syrian strongman, Kerry responded that if Assad is “ready to have a serious negotiation” about implementing an agreement made in Geneva in 2012, “people are prepared to do that.”
Health Spending Growth Picks Up
Inflation-adjusted spending on health services increased 4.1 percent in 2014, after having increased just 1.9 percent in 2013, according to the most recent release of the Census Bureau’s Quarterly Services Survey (QSS). Spending stepped across a wide variety of categories, including hospitals, nursing homes, home health, and physician and other clinical services. Spending on pharmaceuticals and other medical goods rose even more sharply, rising over 9 percent in 2014, according to data released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis in February.
The problem with the Hillary Clinton brand
Hillary Clinton worked hard last week to put the “dead end” sign on the State Department email story by announcing there was nothing to find. But in her rush to control the narrative, Clinton may have (once again) missed the bigger picture: In politics as much as in business, authenticity matters.
Her press conference had the familiar ring of a controlled performance — the carefully parsed explanation, the combative posture — that stretched our belief that what she’s telling us is really the whole story. People wonder: Is she playing it straight with us? Why the nagging suspicion that Brand Hillary does not include bringing to the public table who she really is?
Bills To Rig The Electoral College Resurface In Michigan
Two bills seeking to rig the Electoral College in order to make it easier for Republicans to enter the White House were introduced in Michigan this month. The first bill, introduced by state Rep. Cindy Gamrat (R), would have awarded 9 of the state’s 16 electoral votes to Republican candidate Mitt Romney in 2012, even though Romney lost the state of Michigan to President Obama by nearly 10 percentage points. The second bill, introduced by state Sen. Dave Hildenbrand (R), would have awarded 7 electoral votes to Romney. The second bill, however, may be more appealing to Republican members of Congress because it would shield them from a potential threat to their ability to hold their seats.

NYC’s Plan for Prayer Break in Pre-K Classes Raises Concerns
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s ambitious plan to expand public pre-kindergarten for all 4 year-olds depends in part on the participation of Jewish, Christian and Muslim schools, under a proposal that would permit religious instruction and prayers during midday breaks.
But civil liberties groups are already objecting to the plan, which would take effect next fall, saying allowing a prayer break in a publicly funded classroom may violate the constitutional separation of church and state.

Robert Durst Arrested on a Murder Warrant
A defense lawyer says Robert Durst, a wealthy heir to a New York real estate fortune, has been arrested in New Orleans on a murder warrant from Los Angeles.
Durst is the subject of a six-part HBO series detailing his life of wealth and privilege as well as suspected links to the deaths of his wife in New York and a friend in Los Angeles.
Defense lawyer Chip Lewis says Durst was arrested at J.W. Marriott hotel in New Orleans at 3 p.m. Saturday by the FBI on a warrant for the murder of Susan Berman.
